Handmade Lino prints

Welcome to my art shop! Here, I sell my handmade lino prints, mostly made using the reduction process.

Lino printing is a relief printing process by which a design is created by carving into a block of linoleum, then rolling ink over the block and pressing paper on top to transfer the design.

Reduction printing is a way of creating a complex multi-coloured design using a single block of lino. I start by carving away any areas I want to leave white, and then printing the first colour, usually the lightest colour in the design. I then carve away areas I want to remain in that first colour and print a second colour on top. The process continues like this, carving and printing layer after layer using the same block, until the final design is revealed. All the prints in the edition have to be created at the same time, because by the end of the process the lino block is destroyed, meaning the design can never be repeated.

I create only around 6 to 8 of each design, each one printed by hand. Small variations during the process mean that each print is unique.

I also make one-colour, single layer designs which are not limited edition, since they may be printed over and over again.

All my designs are based on photographs that I took myself, usually of the mountains in the Val d’Anniviers, Switzerland.
